Apple To Nuke Mac Defender Malware With OS X Update

There’s been a high alert recently regarding the Mac Defender and Mac Security trojans that have been fooling unsuspecting Mac users into handing over admin passwords and credit card information. And although Apple has remained particularly mum on the topic, it looks like they will be nuking the malware in an upcoming OSX update.

When AppleCare started receiving a high number of Mac Defender cases, it was leaked that Apple’s reaction was to instruct its staff to not fix affected computers or even confirm with customers whether or not their computers actually had the malware installed. It was a strange way to address the problem, but apparently it was to keep the issue low key until Apple could further investigate.

Now, it seems Apple is ready to really fix the problem and will be releasing an update within the next week or so that will remove the malware automatically. An Apple Support knowledge base article had the following message:

“In the coming days, Apple will deliver a Mac OS X software update that will automatically find and remove Mac Defender malware and its known variants. The update will also help protect users by providing an explicit warning if they download this malware.”

Apple MacBooks Top All Notebook Categories On Consumer Reports [Updated]

That matte aluminum laptop with the white Apple logo is an all too common sight these days, be it in on campus, in a design studio, or at our next press event. And apparently it’s popular with good reason. Consumer Reports, an advocacy group that tests and ranks various consumer products, has given all the top spots in its latest notebook rankings to Apple’s MacBooks.

Apple was most dominant in the 13-inch category, with its MacBook Pro taking the top five of seven spots with Sony and Asus taking the last two. They also took the lead in the 15-inch category with the top three spots, but the competition wasn’t as far behind. And with the 17-inch category, the MacBook Pro took the top two spots.

The MacBook Air 11-inch scored 62 out of 100, taking the top spot for the small laptop category, with Gateway coming in second with a score of 56, and HP coming in third with a score of 49. To see the full Consumer Reports rankings you will need a subscription, but you can take a look at our early-2011 15-inch MacBook Pro review here gratis.

Update: We actually have the rankings charts to share with you below. Also note that AppleCare took the top spot in readers polls for the 11th year in a row, scoring 25 points higher than the number two company.

Apple patent application reveals a LCD screen with switched viewing angles, the protection of privacy

By Dana wollman published on May 22, 2011 5: 48 AM no hate when the guy next to you on the subway is looking over your shoulder, watching screw up in fruit Ninja? Well, Apple could have predicted their anger, in November 2009, before the iPad was nothing more than a Unicorn, the company requested a patent on an LCD display with adjustable explicitly see angles, designed to "protect the display of unwanted spectators". According to the presentation, the screen would include address liquid crystal material modules, which are intended to dispersion modules called that sit on them. The top layer, then redirects the light, making it possible to reduce and alter the angle of view. The patent specifically highlights mobile phones and laptops, paving the way for the sample discrete MacBook and iPhone, although the broad phrase "other portable electronic devices" leaves plenty of room for iPad and iPod touch. There is no word, of course, when or if Apple will ensure this patent, and if so, what devices could incorporate these screens. Us we are only seeing this concept now made public, but it seems that consumers could use this even more today than in the fall of ' 09, when all they had to worry about was a strange cross-eyed on your screen of 3.5 inches of the 3GS .

Apple Store celebrates 10th anniversary with experience 2.0, iPad locked in Lucite (video)

Apple Store celebrates 10th anniversary with 2.0 experience, iPads locked in luciteAlready want the Apple store an Happy 10th anniversary, looking back to see what has changed (and what not) in a decade of presence of retail sale. Now Apple tweaking things even more, starting the so-called Apple Store 2.0. iPads have been dispersed to implemented so run as mini-kioscos and by providing information above several products on the screen. Users can learn more about any particular gadget in the tablets, calculate prices and even hit a button to have a sales associate swing by - for when the giro and saying "excuse me" have a lot of work. The new system has already released in Australia and, although it is barely the shocker some thought Cupertino could unleash on us and certainly not revolutionize its sale retail experience, is better than a dust ' ol YouTube video.

Update: when I had any doubt that this amounts to United States, thus, has just received a photo from within a warehouse of sales of U.S. showing the same type of visualization. We have added to the following.

Update 2: Tim wrote with this Photosynth that shows a perspective of 360 degrees of the revised interior of the Michigan Avenue Apple Store in Chicago. Dig the disembodied legs walking through the front door.

Why is Apple trademark Thunderbolt and why Sony could be excluded?

By Terrence or ' Brien published on May 21, 2011 12: 00 PMApple Thunderbolt
Ray
(formerly known as peak of light) have been developed by Intel, but it is Apple who has been stealing until all the glory of the brand. The company first filed in November 2010 in Jamaica, followed in February this year to ensure the rights to the name in Canada, before registering similar claims in Europe, China and now the United States. This raises some interesting questions about the claim by Intel to be owner of the exclusive brand (see the link of coverage more) and whether or not other companies might use the mark of Ray. Intrigued, we have done a little digging and you will find what we found after the break.

We speak with Intel, and it is that as part of its collaboration in Thunderbolt Apple presented the initial trademark applications before they are transferred to Chipzilla. Therefore, there are no concerns about this being an exclusive on the brand of Cupertino. The connector will be known as Ray in all platforms provided that it meets certain basic requirements. As Intel Dave Salvator told us, "a Thunderbolt application need to use the controller chip and the connector of the lightning". This means that if Sony is in fact through a USB port, rather than jack Mini DisplayPort-as in MacBook Pros, then you have to find another name for its high-speed peripheral interface. That's not to say that he could not made compatible with a simple adapter, after all is only PCI Express in the form of cable. But, it seems, not could be called Thunderbolt.

Vaio
While the beam requires a set of chips, for now, exclusively composed of Intel, there is nothing to prevent the integration in their products from other manufacturers. This is good news, especially for AMD fans fears which were to be left out. In the future the Santa Clara-based company can bring others into the fold will exceed the demand of the market its manufacturing capabilities.

For now it seems to be much of a reason for concern about the fragmentation of Android-style of the platform of Ray. In fact, Intel expects to see the brand in "many places in principles of 2012", but there does not seem to have room for others to obscure the standard. Meanwhile, USB 3.0 just keeps marching his front consolidated into peripheral domain...
